He Is Willing

Luke 5: 12- And it happened when He was in a certain city, that behold, a man who was full of leprosy saw Jesus; and he fell on his face and implored Him, saying; “Lord, if you are willing, You can make me clean.” The He put out His hand and touched him, saying, “I am willing: be cleansed.” Immediately the leprosy left him.
This passage has always deeply moved me. There is so much raw human emotion in this short snippet of Scripture, and if you rush over it, you will miss it.
Let’s take a moment and really dissect what is happening here. First, Scripture tells us that this man was full of leprosy. I haven’t encountered anyone with leprosy, but what I do know, it sounds pretty miserable. This man was surely suffering physically in a way we might not easily comprehend. It’s hard to imagine this level of suffering when we live in this age of modern medicine.
Not only was this man in anguish physically, but surely, he was suffering emotionally as well. He was considered unclean. The lowest rung on the societal ladder. Can you imagine being an outcast due to your health? It’s a hard concept to grasp, isn’t it?
This man approaches Jesus, falls on his face and implores Him. Falls on his face in public, and begs for Jesus to heal him. When was the last time you humbled yourself in such a way and implored someone to help you? I don’t know about you, but the thought of falling on my face and begging someone to help me just leaves me feeling uncomfortable, vulnerable and exposed.
Oh, but the faith of this man! He knew if Jesus was willing, He could heal him from his affliction. Picture the faith that must have washed over this man with leprosy, and the faith that pushed him through throngs of people toward deliverance. In faith, he humbled himself at the feet of the Master and received his miracle.
And Jesus spoke these beautiful words, “I am willing”. Friend, Jesus is willing. We know very little about the man with leprosy. Jesus didn’t take the time to run through a laundry list of this man’s flaws and shortcomings. He didn’t rebuke him for past mistakes. He didn’t chastise him. He didn’t lecture him on what he should be doing with his life. He answered him in compassion, mercy and kindness. “I am willing.”
Today, there is something you need deliverance from. Something that has been attached to you that you haven’t been able to shake. There is some sin you have wrestled with, a thought you can’t let go of, or a behavior you can’t seem to break.
Remember friend, there is nothing He cannot touch. There is no hidden corner of your heart He cannot see. There is nothing that is beyond Him. There is nothing so dirty that it cannot be made clean again. Don’t listen to the lie that says it will always be this way. Don’t listen to the lie that tells you that you are too far gone. There is Resurrection power in the name of Jesus. Remember, the tomb is empty. Hallelujah!
It’s time, friend, to let the fountain of faith overtake you and push you to the feet of Jesus. It’s time to humble yourself before the Savior and let it all go. Lay it all down. He is waiting for you.
He is willing.
Prayer for this week: Lord God, I am breaking through all fear, doubt and shame, and I run toward you. I humble myself at Your feet, and lay down this struggle. I believe in Your ability and willingness to make me clean. I believe in the Resurrection power of Your Name. I believe in Your ability to draw me out of the grave and breathe new life into me. I believe You are willing. And I will glorify Your Name forever before men for what you have done. In Jesus name, amen.
