Don't Miss It!

The total solar eclipse is coming up in just a few weeks. To say I’ve been geeked out about this for a LONG time is an understatement!

We literally get to see the finger of God move the moon between the earth and the sun for 4 minutes on April 8. Romans 1:20 says “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities-his eternal power and divine nature-have been understood from what has been made, so that men are without excuse.” We are being given a chance to show our Creator to an unbelieving world! I really love science. But there is no amount of science that can make this happen. Only God. And He is allowing us a glimpse of it! I hope you don’t miss it!

Our women’s bible study this winter was on the book of Luke. One thing we learned was that the apostle Peter missed the crucifixion of Christ! What?! Upon further study, I realized that, except for John, NONE of the apostles were there!

They were there for the miracles, the teaching, and the miles of traveling together. They were there when He drove out demons and when he came close to the “outsiders.” They heard Him forgive sins and they heard Him confess that He is I AM-the name of GOD! They were there when He rode a donkey through the streets of Jerusalem as the crowd shouted “Hosanna!”

But on the night of His arrest, they fell asleep just when He needed them most. They had the chance to sit with him one last time. They missed it.

After He was arrested, Peter had THREE chances to confess Him as Messiah and HE MISSED IT!

And on the day of Jesus’ great suffering and sacrifice on the cross, the disciples weren’t there. They missed the ultimate reason He came!

It makes me wonder. How much have we missed?

This morning did you rush through reading your Bible just to check it off your list? You had the chance to hear the richness of the voice of God which absolutely drips from those ancient words! Did you miss it?

A friend you haven’t seen lately texts you out of the blue and asks if you want to meet for coffee or a walk and you tell them that you have a million errands to run today but you’ll definitely meet another day. What you don’t know is that it took 2 hours to get up the nerve to ask you to meet because they really needed a friend today. God was going to use you to tend to their brokenness. Did you miss it?

Your spouse comes to you and says they need more face-to-face time with you and asks if the two of you can put your phones away tonight and take a walk or just sit and chat like you used to! You get defensive and they feel worse than before. You could have made them feel like the most important person in your life tonight. Did you miss it?

Your church has been asking for volunteers and you keep wondering if you should step up. But what if you commit and then get locked into something you can’t get out of? Maybe you’ll do it when your life slows down. You have an opportunity to serve. Will you miss it?

You were hurt by someone, and you just can’t seem to move past it. It seems that this person and that situation is on your mind more than usual lately. God is calling you to forgive. Have you missed it?

You keep returning to guilt over your past mistakes and sins. You don’t truly believe that God could love someone like you, and you sometimes doubt you’ll get to heaven. God longs for you to accept His grace, mercy and forgiveness and BELIEVE that what He did for you on the cross was MORE than enough! He wants you to know He means it when He says He loves you. DO NOT MISS THAT!

Every single day we have opportunities to live out our faith in real time! The people and situations in our lives have great value in our spiritual training! When we stand before God and give an accounting for our lives He just might say, “I asked you to accept my Son Jesus and the forgiveness His sacrifice bought, to tell the world about Him, make disciples, show love to your neighbor and be faithful in prayer. Let’s see how you did.” I pray that He won’t say that we missed it!

Ephesians 5:16-17 says “Make the most of every opportunity in these evil days. Don’t act thoughtlessly but understand what the Lord wants you to do.”
