Choosing Perseverance 4/28/2021 - We hear of love-at-first-sight with parents meeting their newborns. But we don't have access to the instantaneous love a newborn has for their parents. As someone who grew up without a mother, I considered that such a blessing. She left when I was a little over a year old. I don’t remember wondering if she was coming back. I don’t know if I asked for her. I thought it a mercy that she left before I became too attached and damaged. I considered myself lucky that I didn’t remember... Read more
Fun At The Beach 4/21/2021 - Like a lot of people, I enjoy the beach. Now when I say beach, I’m referring to next to an ocean or sea. Most of the time when I see or hear this phrase, it’s not used in a biblical way. It’s often used in a way that calls attention to our version of the truth... Read more
The Lord's Servant 4/7/2021 - In Luke 1, Mary, the mother of Jesus had just been told by the angel of the Lord that she was highly esteemed and had been chosen to give birth to the son of God. Verse 38 says “I am the Lord’s servant,” Mary answered, “May it be to me as you have said.” These words, to me, are some of the most profound in the Bible. Mary knew exactly who she was. “I am the Lord’s servant.”... Read more
Passion Week 3/31/2021 - It is Wednesday. The hump day of Holy Week. How are you preparing your heart for the celebration of Sunday? To help with this, let’s twist that well-worn 90s bracelet abbreviation WWJD from, “What would Jesus do?” to “What was Jesus DOING?” Here’s a timeline... Read more
